The Scoping Reports include:

A list of plans, programmes and sustainability objectives which the Development Plan Document should have regard to.

  • Baseline information to be used in the assessment.
  • A list of sustainability issues, problems and opportunities.
  • A list of suggested SA objectives and indicators.
  • A list of consultees.
  • The next steps in the SA process.

2 Scoping Reports have been produced:

  • A more detailed  overall Scoping report for the SA of the Minerals and Waste documents.  Following consultation this Report was revised several times and a final version was produced in September 2006.
  • A Scoping Report for the SA of the Minerals and Waste Site Specific and Preferred Areas document. Consultation will take place between 24th Sept and 5th November

The reports describe Berkshire as one of the most intensively developed areas in the South East but one which also supports a rich and unusual diversity of wildlife and natural features.  The need to balance the demand for minerals extraction and the large and growing production of waste with the protection of the environment is a major challenge.

A list of sustainability objectives are set out in the report  This follows a review of other relevant plans and programmes, analysis of the baseline information and of specific environmental issues and opportunities facing Berkshire.

The report also sets out how the sustainability objectives will be measured using identified indicators.
