Sustainable development is central to the new, reformed planning system. Sustainable development is development that improves the quality of life, both now and in the future, but not at the expense of the environment.
The purpose of the Strategic Environmental Assessment/Sustainability Appraisal (SA) is to ensure that sustainability is considered and integrated into the preparation of Development Plan Documents.
The Joint Minerals and Waste Local Development Documents (JMWLDDs) will be subject to a joint SA. The SA will examine how different options in the Core Strategy help promote sustainable development and reflect sustainability objectives.
